Nicholas Hlobo

....stitching and weaving disparate materials such as ribbon, rubber, gauze and leather to create seductively tactile sculptures and drawings. His works are richly layered, anchored in references to Xhosa culture and the experience of life in post-Apartheid South Africa, while reflecting upon themes of language and communication, gender and sexuality, race and ethnicity. his using techniques such as stitching and weaving, which are traditionally undertaken by women in South Africa. His choice of materials is similarly charged with meaning. The old and punctured inner tubes of car tyres that he gathers from repair shops in Johannesburg are a symbol of industrialisation and the urban experience. For Hlobo, the rubber has particular significance as an emblem of masculinity, not simply because car ownership in South Africa is a masculine status symbol, but also because the inner tubes resemble condoms. Sexual themes are often implicit in his works through his use of phallus and sperm shapes, and forms resembling orifices, umbilical cords and internal organs. The satin ribbon that he uses to make his marks on paper, and which literally connects the disparate elements of his sculptures, suggests femininity, domesticity and unification, in contrast to the more ‘masculine’ materials that it binds together. The ribbon, and the way it is used, challenges gender-based assumptions about divisions of labour and introduces a more ambiguous approach to sexuality.(tate modern)
.. .my personal opinion, work translates alot about south africa, and the situasion of all country!, i heard a lot about country from personal friends, saying its beautifull country, its just threre is a big differentces betwen black and white, in all different aspects: ritch pour, coulour races black and white.

Blythe house

Blythe House is a treasure trove of visual 2d art and design: textile samples, drawings and designs.

...thats just so amaizing to be so close to everythink what was published looking at all "Presage" all magazines, samples realy amaizing just to see what was so important and in fashion at that time, u can easy go back to the first published magazines, and visualy look at all textile industry made materials, of every season.

Fashion V Sport

..In this exhibition Fashion design soliutions very well goes with sport designs. stella McCartney's ADIDAS.
...Everyday life becoming more active and busy, sport and fashion become most weareable clothes every day and more combaining together.
from sport side, it becomes more important - comfortable, flexible, long lasting, breathible. Looking from fashion side more and more using detail in all designs - pockets, hoodies, zippers, diferent sleeve cuts, more free falling materials creating more volume, using more diferent stiches as well as prints on the garments, embroidery, designed shoes, beanies, gloves.
All these ingreadiants starts mixing together and fashion and sport becomes one.
Using a lot textile materials in this exhibition, so that designs are wery free, easy falling down, comfortable like a sample from Viviene Westwood-" its siuts every day life stile and as well as sport active life living person".
Two big, known fashion designers Stella McCartney and Viviene Westwood showed fab samples of their designs - combaining two diferent ideas together and how good it can work, as well as other great artists and designers.
good exhibition

Cildo Meireles

14 october '08- 11 january

AMAIZING EXHIBITION!! one of my very favourite exhibitions, you can look and wonder around for hours and hours, and u can still find new things to see , to listen or to experence!

the all exhibition display is very own way, seems like u walk in a big hall, with all these little areas and rooms to go in, i felt like walking in a little city, experencing diferent things, besuase all exhibition is one, but each instalaition contains, own sound, some feelings, and views: " my work aspires to great simplicity, directness, openness of languarge and interaction" cildo meireles.

"most of these large scale works...intend to gain some independence in relation to space, they seek autonomy, they create a space of their own. the piece is an experiment that exists from its outermost surface inward."

i had great experence as i was walking in one of cildo meireles instalation," fontes"- " instrument for measuring the time".

...thinking..

....feeling good and exited, love what im doing, but always traing to find ways of explaining things,...its just getting to wide, i am traing to exlpain what is what im doing, in terms what is contemporary art?? a lot of questions in my head...
i get tired and keep thinking, i would say wondering in this masive, full of exitiment and opportunitys world..i cant fit myself in normal easy exlainible frame, same as contemporary art, u can explain how thing was made, what material, but it cant be fitted in to just one category,. art is my life style, and can be very smothe or it can be very changing, contemporary art is one of the most interesting art movements for me, its just alow you to manipulate, any kind of materials, technics, or solusions.
contemporary art is about exploring, and getting rezult in any king of way you like it .
